The Cost and Value of Kindness

Mark Twain said, “Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” How powerful is that?  How can something we inherently have be so difficult to actually give?  It’s free!  While that may be true in terms of dollars, kindness has a value.  It cannot be purchased, measured or weighed.  Its explicit behavior shapes and marks our character.  It inspires our disposition and transcends words.  It’s an action.  It’s intentional. It’s a choice. Have you ever been the recipient of a random act of kindness?  It feels as if your heart is smiling.  You tell…

Intuitive vs Intrusive

Many people feel they have information that is imperative to you.  They believe their keen insight will absolutely transform your life.  They sincerely want to help you, whether you want their help or not.  What is it in this season that allows everyone to believe that you need to hear their opinion?  Even if you have not solicited their advice, they give it to you.  They post it.  They tweet it.  They video or photograph it.   Far too often they do not have all of the facts but they weigh in anyway.  Social media has created a platform for people…

Anti’s and Pros

A few years ago I experienced a situation where I was the victim of a home invasion.  Well, that’s what it was in my mind.  A man burst into my home, through a window, and assaulted me in my living room at 3:00 A.M.  I was sure it was a crime!  However, I was told that because this person jumped out of a moving car in which he was “spooked” that somehow his action was justified.  The fact that he never asked for help but instead grabbed me and tussled with me covering me in his blood and splattering it…

I CAN COOK BUT I’D RATHER WATCH THE GAME!

Why is it assumed that if there is any cooking to be done it should be the women?  First, let me say that many chefs are men!  Is that a skill that is prohibited from entering the home, like a leave it at work kind of thing? Some men wouldn’t know what par is but make a mean omelet and the same could be said for women not knowing how to cook but are great putters. When we think of sports enthusiast we most often think of men.  The roles of men and women have so evolved and yet our…

Plaids and Stripes

Some days things just don’t match.  You saw the finished work in your mind. But when you see it in person you wonder what happened?  That is not what you saw in your vision.  It’s all mismatched.  That simply will not do. You have always been able to coordinate.  You make the necessary adjustments.  You know how to improvise.  You have flair. But today, right now, something is off. Aaahhhh, I’ve got it!  The colors are similar but the patterns are not connected.  Something is missing.  Maybe a day off to refresh would be helpful.  Perhaps you need to have…
